Nathan’s Famous Brings Taste of Coney Island to Interstate 95 in Perryville, MD

Smithfield Foods, licensee of Nathan’s Famous pre-packaged hot dogs, announced today that the iconic hot dog brand is teaming up with the Maryland State Police, Maryland Transportation Authority Police and Areas USA at the I-95 Safety Fair on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Nathan’s Famous is bringing its Coney Island-themed mobile unit, complete with carnival games such as pop-a-shot and skee-ball, a miniature three-horse carousel, a Zoltar® Fortune Teller coupon machine, a two-story tall slide and, most of all, Nathan’s Famous Premium Beef Hot Dogs, to the fair at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway Barrack in Perryville, MD.

The free family event will have exhibits and activities that include the Maryland State Police helicopter, antique state police cars, K-9 handlers, seat-belt convincer, face painting and more.

“Nathan’s Famous has always understood the significance of building a stronger community and what the Maryland State Police and Maryland Transportation Authority Police are doing at the I-95 Safety Fair is incredibly important,” said Mike Paribello, Sr. Director of Marketing, Smithfield Foods. “Supporting the communities where our consumers live and work is our passion and we’re excited to bring a little Coney Island fun to Maryland.”

It’s our plan to submit a collective request to Apple and Google once this campaign has concluded.”

Nathan’s Famous, the iconic hot dog company based in Coney Island, N.Y., set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title today for Most selfies (self-portraits) taken simultaneously with 4,296 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

 

The previous record of 2,997 was beaten by the crowd taking in the St. Louis Cardinals game against the visiting Detroit Tigers.

 

A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator was on-site to immediately verify and confirm the record.

 

“Everyone knows that Nathan’s Famous is the originator of fun and today we proved it with 4,296 Cardinals fans by setting the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for Most selfies taken simultaneously. We can’t thank our partners at Schnucks Supermarkets and the St. Louis Cardinals enough for helping us with this awesome achievement,” said Mike Paribello, Sr. Director of Marketing, Nathan’s Famous.

Joey Chestnut, the eight-time defending Nathan’s Famous National Hot Dog Eating Contest Champion, was on-hand and participated by taking a selfie at the stadium with the famous Gateway Arch in the background.

“I know I hold the contest record for downing the most hot dogs, and the record for most Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Contest championships, but it was really cool to be a part of a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS official attempt,” said Chestnut. “So many fans jumped on board. Chestnut alluded to The Original Selfie Sweepstakes, which officially opens on Monday, May 18 at 12:00 a.m. EDT. Nathan’s Famous brought a taste of Coney Island to Gene Slay’s Boys’ Club in St. Louis, Mo., on Wednesday as part of its Ready. Set. PLAY. initiative, a partnership created in 2014 with KaBOOM!. Ready. Set. PLAY. celebrates play and the local leaders who are making active play possible in communities across the nation.

Those involved with Gene Slay’s Boys’ Club were treated to a Coney Island-themed afternoon. Nathan’s Famous brought its mobile tour to St. Louis where children enjoyed carnival games such as pop-a-shot and skee-ball, a miniature three-horse carousel, a Zoltar® Fortune Teller coupon machine and, most of all, Nathan’s Famous Premium Beef Hot Dogs.

Commemorating the achievements of Gene Slay’s Boys’ Club, Nathan’s Famous surprised Prescott W. Benson, Executive Director, with a Schnucks Supermarkets gift card worth $1,000 towards the purchase of groceries, courtesy of Nathan’s Famous.
