Vanessa Jaurique, MOSI’s in-house sous chef, earned first place and the title of Top Chef Tampa Bay for the second year in a row at the 6th annual Top Chef Tampa Bay competition. The competition invites 12 area chefs to provide a unique five-course meal for 13 guests and three judges. Ovations Food Services, MOSI’s food and beverage partner, entered MOSI’s sous chef, Vanessa Jaurique, into this prestigious competition.
Creating a science-themed menu, called Escoffier Meets Einstein & Chef Vanessa Meets MOSI, Chef Jaurique named each dish after MOSI’s exhibits. The “Butterfly Garden” featured Amuse-Bouche paired with Zonin Prosecco; Trio of Beets paired with Zonin Fiano represented the “3D Printing the Future” exhibit; “S.T.E.A.M.punks Surf & Turf” included Seared Scallops, Chorizo Croquette, Sweet Corn Puree with Glazed Pork Belly, English Pea Puree and BBQ Jus paired with Zonin Chardonnay Principi di Butera; Pan-Seared Duck Breast with Cilantro-Lime Cranberry Demi paired with Zonin Merlot represented the “Back Woods Forest Preserve;” the “Florida Hospital IMAX Dome Theatre” featured Basil Crusted Beef Filet, Beef Tip & Smoked Mushroom Ragout, Poor-Man’s Beef Pie with Baby Spring Vegetables, and Parsnip Silk paired with Zonin Chianti; and the final course “Kids in Charge” served a deconstructed “Last Order of Strawberry Shortcake” with Peaches ‘N Cream and Cotton Candy with Zonin Rose.
In the Tampa area, Ovations Food Services operates at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, Ruth Eckerd Hall & Capitol Theatre, The Lakeland Center, and consults at the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts. Other Florida venues include EverBank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Pensacola Bayfront Stadium, Space Coast Stadium, the Daytona Beach Ocean Center, Palm Beach County Convention Center and Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens.
